The Poor Pay More Poverty Trap
All poor people can get themselves out of poverty if they try hard enough. Right?
Well, not always. The “poverty trap” where poor people pay more for almost everything, from toilet paper to financial services is just that, a trap. While some poor people do manage to “make it” others are stuck in a vicious cycle. To find out how much this poverty penalty affects poor people, I spoke to UK citizens who live below the poverty line. I was expecting to hear some shocking things, but the worst was this; “I can’t afford to save money.” These people who need to save money the most, can’t afford to. But, why not? Is it simply due to bad spending habits, or is there something more that poor people struggle with?
